Creating an A3 sheet manual including instructions
in 8 different languages
What the customer wanted
The customer wanted to create an instruction manual aimed at the foreign market. To cut costs, they requested that several languages were included on the same sheet. The sheet had to fit into the product box, so there was a limit to the size of paper that could be used. This meant that there was a need for the translated text to be compact.
What we did
To fit the necessary information on the page, we made the sentences as short as possible, and created an instruction manual based around illustrations.
We tried to make the sentences as short and simple as possible to make them easy to understand. This also meant that there was much less translation that needed to be done.
What our customer thought
The customer was happy that we had managed to include all of the necessary information and cut translation costs at the same time. They also said that using more pictures and fewer words meant that the instruction manual was very easy to understand.
Efficient multilingual translation of several similar models
What the customer wanted
The customer wanted us to efficiently produce high quality manuals for several models at around the same time (with a gap of 2 weeks). They wanted us to translate the parts of the manuals which were about the same specifications and functions for one model, and then use the same translation for the other models.
What we did
We found the differences between all of the models, and re-used sections which were the same for several different models.
We kept records of which parts of the text went with which models, and applied any changes made to the first manual which we produced to subsequent manuals. By doing this, we were able to produce manuals for several different models at the same time.
What our customer thought
The customer was happy that quality had improved while costs had decreased.
Creating a built-in manual
What the customer wanted
The customer wanted us to create a built-in electronic manual for a small LCD monitor.
They wanted us to make a simple paper installation manual, and have all of the operation information in the built-in manual.
What we did
We kept the text simple, so that it would fit into the screen, and used things such as icons to help to explain things visually. To help users, we included icon function explanations.
What our customer thought
This was the first time that the customer had used a built-in manual, but from their experience of working with us in the past, they said that they were glad that they asked us to create the manual. The customer was so happy with our work that they started using built-in manuals for some of their other products as well.
Making it possible to edit the text in Flash movies
What the customer wanted
The customers wanted us to use the XML file that they were already using, to create Flash product introductions for their website's top page.
What we did
We used a Flash creation method where the pictures and words in XML files would be used to create a Flash movie.
Using this system, the html and Flash could be changed by simply changing the XML file, so product introductions could be updated easily.
What our customer thought
Our customers were happy that we created a function that they could use for a long time.
They are still using the function now.
Updating a Corporate Website
What the customer wanted
The customer wanted us to update their website when updates were necessary, for a set monthly update fee.
What our customer thought
The customer was pleased that we were able to update the site quickly, including some times when we were able to apply updates within a few hours. We also found some unrelated places on the website which needed to be corrected, so the customer was extremely satisfied with our service.
